Over the last few months our staff have been telling us what Dignity means to them.
Led by our staff team member SK (our very first Dignity Champion) at our Mount Park home, SK has gathered everyone’s luggage tags with their dignity meanings on. The home bought two trees, an apple tree and a cherry tree, feeling that these would be better than a picture on the wall. Over time the trees would grow to provide more privacy in the people we support’s garden, but they will also be able to eat the fruits.
We have had such success with this project we have now spread it across all four homes where we have a Dignity Champion in each home.
A Dignity Champion is someone who believes passionately that being treated with dignity is a basic human right, not an optional extra. They believe that care services must be compassionate, person centred, as well as efficient, and are willing to try to do something to achieve this. Dignity Champions pledge to challenge poor care, to act as good role models and, through specific guidelines issued by the campaign, to educate and inform all those working around them.
